Nottingham's affordable living and metropolitan feel make the city a real attraction for students and many choose to live here after graduating.

Students at Nottingham Trent tend to live in Forest Fields.

This is an idea I've been toying with for a while, but I wanted to get as many people's opinions as possible before going further with it.

Basically, I'm about to go into my final year at uni, will be turning 21 in a few weeks, and have been single for far longer than I'd care to mention.

This is for a couple of reasons - mainly that I had quite a few self-confidence issues until fairly recently, and also that I've been preoccupied with work and other activities over the last couple of years.

However, it's a situation I'd really quite like to change, and I'm wondering whether joining a dating site might be a good idea.

Partly that's because virtually all of the attractive, intelligent and interesting women I've met recently seem to be already in relationships, and virtually all of my circle of friends are coupled up to the extent that even at parties I'm often the only single person there.

The other main reason it seems like a good idea is that the major obstacle I've had over the years to getting together with someone, even though I'm perfectly confident and successful in other areas of my life, is my inability to show interest in someone as more than just a friend, due to fear of rejection/making things awkward with someone who I'd like to remain friends with.

With a dating site, on the other hand, it seems as if that obstacle is taken out to a large extent: by joining the site, you pretty much make it clear what your intentions are without having to state them, and rejection is a lot easier to take from someone who's just a face on a computer screen who you'll probably never meet, rather than a real flesh-and-blood person who you'll probably still see around and might have friends in common with. Is 20/21 too young to join a dating site - will people assume you must be unattractive or socially inept to be joining one at such a young age, and would there be a decently sized pool of women of the same kind of age on there?

Apologies for the slightly rambling post, but thanks in advance for your opinions!

It might just make them that little bit more willing to help you catch up if you’ve been away, lenient with your predicted grades and forgiving if you miss the occasional homework.

There are those who think such relationships are doomed to failure.
